Junior Golf: Florida Golf Bargains

img_0102-1In this Wednesday Waggle we will look at the bargains in Florida golf and how you can take advantage of them. There are a bunch so let’s get started. (golfdigest.com)

Florida is a state which is bigger than it first appears to be. If you enter the state on I-10 at Pensacola and drive to Miami, you’re looking at 11 hours or so, and that’s on excellent divided highways the whole time. The good news for your daughter is that there are golf courses everywhere that are daily play and have reasonable to excellent pricing.

Our schedule has required us to go to Florida in the summer. How does this impact your family? Well, it is hot and humid, yes, the whole state. However, this is good news because the winter visitors, snowbirds, leave well before May 1 and this means there are a ton of available tee times. Snowbirds don’t care for the summer heat so they go somewhere cooler. The rounds played on golf courses drops so dramatically that there are literally price wars among most of the courses just to get someone to play the course.

San Antonio is also hot and humid so the Florida summers don’t bother us. Here are specific examples: at 1 of the Disney World courses we found that if we teed off at 1030 or later, the green fees dropped a bunch, and if we waited until mid-afternoon, they dropped even more! This is great and quite common. If your daughter can take the heat, you can save money and play on courses that are relatively uncrowded.image

Something else, absolutely amazing. For those of you who may be moving to Florida or can stay for an extended period, here is something to consider. A number of courses, including private courses and country clubs offer summer specials. Say, $500 for unlimited family range balls and green fees within the applicable dates, again about 6 months. Usually you must spend some money on food/beverage too, it varies so perhaps $1,000.00 total over the period. And it is quite common for Florida courses to charge you a $25 cart fee each time you play, in addition to the unlimited benefits. Some courses may not allow walking or only allow walking during certain times. Still, this is great stuff! So it will probably cost you $25 each to play around of golf, but that is peanuts compared to regular pricing. (golfguideweb.com)

If your summer plans include Disney World or Universal Studios, be certain to look up some golf courses nearby. I think there are 70 courses in the Orlando area. The Disney courses may require advance tee times so be advised. There are however, so many great courses you should be able to play some beautiful courses at low prices. Be aware of the heat.

See you on #1 tee sweating a bit… Sam
